The archaeological site of choquekirao is part of the complex system of Andean towns in Vilcabamba Valley. On Incas time, it was connected with Machupicchu by a complex network of trails. It is situated in the spurs of the mountain range of SalKantay, at 3,035m.a.s.l. Surrounded by the snow capped Apus of Yanama, Ampay, Choquetacarpo, Pumasillo, and Panta on the right site of Apurimac river in the Santa Teresa district, the Convencion Province of the department of Cusco.

Day 1: Cusco - Cachora - Chiquiska

We begin our four hour journey by bus to the village of Cachora, where we meet our horsemen and mules. Beginning our trek to Kapuliyoq where we will have an amazing view of the deep valley of the Apurimac River, the mountains and hills.  We will have a three hour descent to the first camp in Chiquiska.

Day 2: Chiquiska - Santa Rosa - Choquequirao.

After breakfast we continue our descent, crossing the Apurimac River and up to the Santa Rosa Sector where we will have lunch. From Santa Rosa, we will take a long, hard climb of about five hours to our destination: the beautiful archaeological site of Choquequirao. We will arrive just in time to enjoy an amazing sunset over the mountains before dinner and a rest after our longest trek of the day. 

Day 3: Choquequirao.

Today we visit the remains of this archaeological site as the place called Usno, the Apurimac canyon and also explore places that are newly discovered and restored. After lunch, we will visit the area to hopefully see the condor in all its' magnificence.

Day 4: Choquequirao - Cocamazana

After breakfast, we will return, descending to the Apurimac River where we will stop for lunch at the beach. We will travel about three hours which willleads us to our last camp in Cocamazana. From here we can once again enjoy the spectacular scenery that lies throughout this route.

Day 5: Cocamazana - Cachora - Cusco

We will have an early start to avoid the sun, ascending about two hours, until Kapuliyoq Abra (2800 m). From here a path leads to the Cachora village where we will have a short break to say goodbye to the muleteers and mules. We will have lunch and in the afternoon continue by bus to the archaeological region of Saywite, an Inca "ecosystem"site. After the tour we will board our bus back to the city of Cusco.
